First Alert Weather Team is monitoring some much-needed rain showers and the potential for tropical moisture – Action News Jax

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Action News Jax’s First Alert Weather Team is expecting some showers and the possibility of tropical moisture later this week.

First Alert meteorologist Garrett Bedenbaugh expects some showers to move in from the Atlantic on Tuesday morning. Some areas will benefit from some much-needed rain. A few showers are possible for the rest of the day, including some coming in from the ocean.

There is also a strong offshore wind from the east at over 24-32 km/h. Therefore there is a high risk of rip currents and increased surf.

Maximum temperatures on Tuesday will be over 27 degrees on the coast and below 35 degrees inland.

What happens on Thursday night will depend on the tropics, but a few showers and storms are likely to persist over the weekend.

As for the tropics, a broad low pressure system could form in the southwest Atlantic later this week. Clusters of showers and storms will likely move westward toward the southeastern U.S., but it’s too early to tell if this will develop into a tropical depression or tropical storm.

There is a chance of pleasant rain, gusty winds and rough beach weather, which could peak on Friday.

In addition, a low pressure system in the southwestern Gulf of Mexico is expected to become a named storm later today or tonight as it approaches Mexico. Flooding and rainfall are expected for the Texas coast.
