Air Quality Health Advisory Tuesday for Buffalo, WNY

An air quality health advisory for Tuesday has been issued for the Western New York region by the State Department of Environmental Conservation and the State Department of Health.

With the heat advisory in effect, the Erie County Health Department is advising people to stay indoors and take several other precautions to stay safe, including limiting outdoor activities.

The advisory, which warns of high ozone levels, will be in effect from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. It covers seven of Western New York’s eight counties. Allegany County is not included. The advisory was also issued for the New York metropolitan area and the Lower Hudson Valley.

The advisory notes that ground-level ozone, a major component of smog, will be generated by summer heat acting on emissions from vehicle exhaust and out-of-state sources.

People with heart and respiratory conditions, young children, and those who exercise or work outdoors are advised to limit their activities, particularly in the afternoon and early evening, when Ozone levels are the highest.
