Home Improvement star Zachery Ty Bryan arrested for drunk driving

Home Improvement star Zachery Ty Bryan was arrested in California for alleged driving under the influence.

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office confirmed to USA TODAY that Bryan, 42, was arrested Saturday after officers from the La Quinta Sheriff’s Station stopped a vehicle suspected of being involved in a traffic accident at 2:01 a.m. Officers “observed signs of impairment” in the driver, Bryan, and arrested him for driving under the influence with a prior conviction, the sheriff’s office said. He was booked into a Riverside County jail and also faces a contempt of court charge.

Bryan is scheduled to appear in court on April 23.

This was the latest arrest for Bryan, who played Tim’s (Tim Allen) son Brad on the classic sitcom Home Improvement. He was previously arrested in 2020 for alleged domestic violence and convicted on two counts before being arrested for another domestic violence incident in 2023. Eugene, Oregon, police said in a statement in July that Bryan was booked into the Lane County Jail on a fourth-degree assault charge after officers received “a report of a physical altercation” between a man and a woman.

In October, Bryan pleaded guilty to fourth-degree assault after agreeing to a deal that included dismissal of a second assault charge and a nearly two-year prison sentence. He was sentenced to one week in jail and 36 months of probation. He was also ordered to “have no contact with the victim without the consent of the probation officer, to undergo treatment for alcohol/drug abuse issues as directed by the probation officer, and to refrain from using alcohol or drugs.”

Bryan’s attorney, John Kolego, told USA TODAY in October that he “decided to accept this settlement and admit that he negligently caused physical injury to his partner” in order to “get the help the family needs and move on and not cause further pain or trauma to his family.”

In June, Allen spoke about Bryan’s legal troubles in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. “I don’t know what’s going on with him,” Allen said. “Zach is a great kid who has developed into a complex man. All you can do is step aside and let someone go through their process. At a certain point, he went from being the guy I know to someone who reacts to situations that I have nothing to do with and can’t control.”
