Riding lawnmower killed in accident with minivan on Friday evening

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, 65-year-old Thomas Patterson of Edon was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident on State Route 49.

EDON, Ohio — A person driving a lawn mower without his taillights on in Williams County Friday night died when he was struck by a minivan, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Thomas Patterson, 65, of Edon, was driving a lawn mower south on State Route 49 in Florence Township, which straddles the Ohio-Indiana border, shortly after 10 p.m. Friday, OSHP said.

Another person was driving a minivan south on the same road when he struck Patterson’s lawn mower.

According to OSHP, Patterson was thrown from the lawnmower and pronounced dead at the scene.
