Man identified in connection with attack on deputy sheriff that left Southern California woman dead

A 33-year-old San Diego County man has been identified as a suspect in connection with the attack on a Riverside County sheriff’s deputy that ended with the death of a female suspect.

The incident occurred shortly after 1 a.m. in the 1000 block of West 6th Street in Corona, said a press release from the RCSD.

According to authorities, the deputy was pursuing “several suspects” on foot, but they ran away when he tried to make contact with them.

As the officer rounded a corner, a male suspect, later identified as Eric Nourani, allegedly attacked him and a fight ensued.

While the deputy was struggling with the male suspect, a female began to attack the deputy and a shootout ensued involving the deputy,” the release states. “The female suspect was struck by gunfire. The deputy continued to fight off the male suspect, who attempted to take his weapon away until Good Samaritans arrived and assisted in apprehending the male suspect.”

Authorities said the woman, whose identity has not yet been released, was given medical aid until paramedics arrived and took her to a nearby hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

Nourani and the deputy were also taken to hospital with moderate to minor injuries.

A sheriff’s department spokesman declined to comment “on why the deputy wanted to speak to the people or provide further details on the Good Samaritans’ assistance,” The Press-Enterprise reported.

The 33-year-old suspect was later arrested at the Robert Presley Detention Center on charges of murder, attempted murder of a peace officer, assault and resisting an officer with violence.

Investigators with the California Department of Justice are leading the investigation into the fatal shooting involving a deputy sheriff.

The deputy, whose name has not yet been released, has been placed on paid administrative leave in accordance with RCSD policy.
