Iowa and Louisiana man killed in tractor-trailer crash in Calcasieu Parish

SULPHUR, La. (KLFY) — An Iowa, Louisiana man was killed this morning when he crashed into the back of a tractor-trailer in Sulphur, authorities said.

According to Louisiana State Police, Raymond Bradley IV, 40, of Iowa, died at a local hospital from injuries sustained in the crash.

Officials said LSP Troop D was called to a two-vehicle crash on La. 1256 near Carlyss Drive in Sulphur just before 5 a.m. Monday. Investigators said Bradley was driving a 2009 Nissan Altima north on La. 1256. At the same time, a 2020 Peterbilt semi-truck was stopped at a light at the intersection of Carlyss Drive. For reasons still under investigation, the Altima struck the rear of the Peterbilt.

Bradley, who was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident, was taken to a nearby hospital where he later died. The driver of the Peterbilt suffered minor injuries, authorities said.

A standard toxicology sample was taken from both drivers and sent for analysis. This accident remains under investigation.

LSP reminds motorists that Louisiana law requires that every person in a vehicle, regardless of seating position, remain buckled at all times. While not all crashes can be survived, these precautions can dramatically reduce the risk of serious injury or death.

In 2024, Troop D investigated six fatal accidents with six fatalities.
