Beach warning issued for a lake in Dubois County

FERDINAND, Ind. (WEHT) – A beach warning has been issued for a lake in Dubois County due to elevated cyanobacteria levels.

According to officials, the warning applies to Ferdinand Lake in Ferdinand State Forest.

Cyanobacteria is a harmful algal bloom that can be dangerous for humans and animals. Swimming and boating are still permitted. However, authorities advise avoiding contact with algae and avoiding swallowing water while swimming.

They also recommend bathing in warm, soapy water after contact with the lake water. Park visitors are also advised not to let their pets swim near algae or drink water.
