Was suspended for reporting a security incident, TCS employee claims on Reddit

A Reddit user claimed on Tuesday that he was suspended from Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), India’s largest IT services company, for reporting a security incident.

The user claimed that the action was taken against him despite the company having a policy that “no action can be taken against whistleblowers.”

In a post on a social media platform, the user said the action was taken after he reported a security incident in TCS where his manager forced employees to use their personal laptops and share login credentials.

“As per the TCS whistleblower policy, no action can be taken against the whistleblower, but today I received a suspension notice,” the user said.

The user asked for advice on what to do in this situation, adding: “My HR and managers won’t help me due to bad relationships.”

At least 293 users commented on the post and some asked him to post about the incident on LinkedIn and bring it to the attention of higher authorities.

“Collect your experience letter and join a new organization,” said one user.

Another user said that the company will say that they did not take action against you as a whistleblower, but as an employee who did not follow XYZ policies.

A user asked the “banned” employee to post the matter on LinkedIn and tag senior Tata Group officials as the act was against the code of conduct.

One of the users also urged him to raise this issue with the TCS Ethics Committee as they will “definitely” look into the matter.

In response to comments on his post, the Reddit user said he had sent an email to senior officials. “They blame me for everything. For example, I reported that I shared customer login details, used my personal laptop for work and communicated via WhatsApp.”

In 2023, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) had fired six employees after they were found guilty of accepting favors from certain recruitment firms while hiring contract workers.
