Health Minister Dr Chris Tufton recovering in hospital after Valiant accident

Health Minister Dr Christopher Tufton is recovering following an accident this morning involving dancehall artiste Valiant.

Tufton and Valiant both shared a photo of themselves together at the University Hospital of the West Indies on Instagram on Sunday.

In the caption, the minister, who wore a bandage on his forehead, was full of happiness.

“Well, this Sunday was not planned! I fell off my bike this morning. I consider myself very lucky because it could have been worse!! Thank you to God and to everyone who prayed for me and sent me messages,” the minister posted on his Instagram page.

“Thanks also to Valiant for getting me to the UHWI quickly and to the team of doctors and nurses who are currently caring for me.”

Media reports emerged this morning that the minister was being treated in hospital for a broken wrist sustained in a bicycle accident on Sunday morning involving “a popular dancehall artiste”.

According to reports, Dr. Tufton was riding his bicycle on Charlemont Avenue in St. Andrew when he was struck by a motor vehicle driven by the then unnamed artist.

While the majority of commentators wished the minister a speedy recovery, some even added jokes.

“Thank God he’s never leaving again. Get well soon,” one man joked, using the title of one of Valiant’s popular songs, while another replied, “Actually, he’s gone – to the hospital.”

Less kind were the comments on Prime Minister Andrew Holness’ Instagram page, where he wished the minister a speedy recovery.

“Carry him one mile an hour so he gets well quickly!!,” one woman sneered, while another added: “If you wish Princess Margaret a speedy recovery, you know how it feels to have this poor service and how it feels to lose someone because the doctor refuses to help people.”

Another woman dismissed her comments as invalid, insisting that as Minister of Health, Dr Tufton would receive the best care in all health facilities on the island: “We will try because no matter where he goes, he will be well treated.”

Valiant has a very Interesting a few weeks. He recently had to be rescued from a stuck elevator in New York. Some social media users praised the Crazy DJ for his responsibility.

“Valiant was brave 👏. He lived up to his name,” one person said.

“Get well soon, Dr. Tufton. Well done, Valiant, brave move in a scary situation,” said another online user.
