1 in critical condition following a domestic incident

CARBONDALE, Ill. (KFVS) – Police in Carbondale are investigating a shooting involving a married couple.

According to the Carbondale Police Department, officers were called to the 400 block of N. Beadle Drive at 7:45 a.m. Tuesday, May 7, for a report of a shooting.

Officers reportedly found the victim suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound. First responders provided immediate medical attention before the victim was transported by ambulance for further treatment.

According to police, the victim is currently in critical condition.

Officers also found the suspect, identified as 31-year-old Evetta Hughes of Carbondale, inside the home. According to police, the victim and Hughes are married.

After further investigation, officers learned that this was an isolated domestic incident between the couple.

Investigators charged Hughes with aggravated assault with a firearm and aggravated domestic battery.

This investigation is ongoing.
