Two dead in hit-and-run in Riverside County

The victims were a runner and a motorcyclist. There were less than six hours between the two incidents.



RIVERSIDE COUNTY, CALIFORNIA — Leaving the scene of an accident is against the law in California, but in Riverside County, it happened twice in less than six hours. In both cases, the victims were left for dead.

The most recent incident was reported around 3:40 a.m. Thursday in the area of ​​Limonite and Pacific Avenue in Jurupa Valley. According to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office, a motorcycle was struck by a car, causing the driver to be thrown into the road.

When police and paramedics arrived, they found the adult driver seriously injured. He was taken to a regional trauma center, where he died a short time later. The man’s identity has not been released.

The driver who hit the motorcycle allegedly fled the scene of the accident, but was tracked down.

“The subsequent investigation led to the identification of the other vehicle, which was later found at a residence in Jurupa Valley,” the sheriff’s department said. “The driver … was identified and the vehicle was impounded.”

No arrests have been announced and the driver’s name has not been released.

Just hours earlier, around 10 p.m. on Wednesday, a 25-year-old Winchester man who was jogging in a residential neighborhood in Menifee was struck and killed by a fleeing driver.

The fatal crash was reported at 28760 Bradley Road. When Menifee Police and Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department arrived at the scene, they found the man, later identified by the medical examiner as Victor Bello, unconscious in the roadway. Despite efforts to save him, Bello died at the scene.

An investigation by Menifee Police revealed that Bello was traveling north on Bradley Street when he was struck by a vehicle traveling in the same direction. The driver did not stop.

The police assume that the vehicle may have been a Hyundai Elantra (model year 2021-2023).
