Atlanta mother still fighting for justice a year after her daughter was killed at graduation party – WSB-TV Channel 2

ATLANTA — A year after her daughter’s murder, a southwest Atlanta mother’s fight for justice continues.

Candace McCowan from Channel 2 was live at APD headquarters Tuesday.

Nicole Williams, Bre’asia Powell’s mother, said she is not done fighting for her daughter.

She was the force behind the hundreds of people who came together today to keep Bre’asia Powell’s case alive.

“Justice for Bre, Justice for Bre,” were the cries heard along Benjamin E. Mays Drive as several hundred people marched. Many were dressed in pink, with a young life on their minds.

“It’s like every time we have a reunion or a birthday or a sleepover, she’s not there and we feel like something is missing,” said Teyonni Stovall, a friend.

It’s been a year since 16-year-old Bre’asia Powell was shot and killed at a graduation party on the campus of Benjamin E. Mays High School. She was rushed to the hospital, but it was too late. And his mother, Williams, said every day since, her heart continues to break.

“It’s getting harder every day, it’s never been easier,” Williams said.

Williams gathered her friends, family and even her dance team Tuesday to honor Bre’asia and demand justice while marching to where she was shot. pray.

Family friend and rapper Young Dro was there to share a message to the dozens of children.

“This is senseless gun violence. It’s for nothing. She died for absolutely nothing because people are running wild with these guns,” Young Dro said. “If you want to show me your future, show me your friends,” he added.

Four suspects have been arrested in the Bre’asia case. For her mother, she promises to keep walking until everyone involved is brought to justice.

“From what I understand, there are others. There were 18 other bullets there,” Williams said. “I’m not going to rest until justice is served.”
