Missing Scituate man found dead in woods

SCITUATE, R.I. (WPRI) – Police say an investigation is ongoing after an 80-year-old Scituate man was found dead in the woods near his home.

Officials found the man’s body in a wooded area near Central Pike and Collins Lane on Tuesday evening. His identity has not yet been determined.

The man was last seen alive on Saturday morning. His pastor visited him and his wife on Tuesday because the couple had missed church services, police said.

According to police, the priest found the man’s wife lying on the floor, apparently in a medical emergency. She was taken to the hospital and is recovering.

Officers began searching for the man after the pastor reported him missing. Police believe the man ran away from his home and became lost in the woods.

Although the cause of the man’s death is unknown, police believe there was no foul play.
