“Grease” actress Susan Buckner has died at the age of 72

“Grease” actress Susan Buckner, who played Sandy’s dapper friend Patty Simcox, has died aged 72.

Her death was announced Tuesday by her publicist Melissa Berthier, who said, “Susan passed away peacefully on May 2 surrounded by her loved ones.”

Buckner’s daughter Samantha Mansfield told People Magazine, “The light she brought to every room will be forever missed. “She was magical and I was so lucky to call her my best friend.”

No further details about Buckner’s cause of death were released.

The former actress is best known for her role in the 1978 musical film, in which she starred opposite Olivia Newton-John, wore large glasses and appeared in all the major “Grease” dance numbers.

In “Summer Nights” she is seen snuggling close to Newton-John and knocking over a trash can with her. In another memorable dance sequence, her character Patty is molested by a boy who lifts up her skirt.

A Seattle native, Buckner initially competed in beauty pageants, winning the title of Miss Washington in 1971 and entering the Miss America pageant the following year.

She later joined the all-female dance and singing group The Golddiggers and appeared on The Dean Martin Show in 1973.

Her subsequent acting credits include Starsky and Hutch, The Love Boat, The Amazing Howard Hughes, Deadly Blessing and more.

After a break from acting in the 1980s, Buckner began teaching theater and dance in Florida.

She is survived by Mansfield, her son Adam Josephs and grandchildren Oliver, Riley, Abigail and Ruby, as well as her sister Linda and other family members.
