Flood warning remains in place as further heavy rain is expected

A flood warning remains in effect for parts of Norfolk following recent torrential rain.

On Sunday, the Environment Agency issued a flood warning for the Hundred Foot Washes, also known as the Ouse Washes, in Cambridgeshire and Norfolk.

An update at 8:30 a.m. on Monday said the warning remains in effect today.

The warning states: “River levels are rising steadily due to recent heavy rainfall. Flooding is possible.”

“Further rainfall is expected over the next 12 hours, which will keep river levels high.”

“Please be careful on the riverside roads and sidewalks and do not put yourself in unnecessary danger. We are monitoring the situation.”

On Sunday, flooding was reported at the Honingham junction on the A47 and on the Fen Road in Scarning, both near Dereham.

According to the Met Office, further heavy rain and “strange claps of thunder” are expected in Norfolk today.

A Met Office spokesman said Monday would start mostly dry and sunny, but there would be isolated showers throughout the day.

“The showers will be heavy in places and may be accompanied by occasional thunder,” the spokesman added.
