Fatal accident in Standish is being investigated

​According to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, speed and alcohol appeared to play a role in the accident.

STANDISH, Maine – A fatal crash that occurred Saturday night in Standish is under investigation.

According to a press release from the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, Cumberland County Sheriff’s deputies and Standish first responders were called to a car crash in the Richville Road area near Johnson Road just before 10 p.m.

An initial investigation revealed that 53-year-old Christopher Twigg of Sebago was driving a 2008 Toyota Tundra when he lost control of the vehicle and struck a Central Maine Power power pole and several trees before coming to a stop in a ditch, the sheriff’s office said.

The truck was badly damaged and Twigg was pronounced dead at the scene.

The road was closed for several hours during the accident reconstruction, the sheriff’s office said. CMP was on scene to repair the power pole and restore power.

According to the sheriff’s office, speed and alcohol appear to have played a role in the accident.

The investigation is ongoing.
