Louisiana police say teen was raped, shot twice by mother’s boyfriend and set on fire by mother: ‘You are pure evil’

Louisiana police are investigating a horrific case of abuse against a 15-year-old girl, allegedly committed by her mother and the mother’s boyfriend.

According to WDSU-TV, Terrebonne Parish Sheriff Tim Soignet released details of the investigation in an emotional media briefing on May 15.

“I can neither put into words nor understand that someone would do something like that to their child.”

Soignet said the abuse was discovered after an April 21 car accident involving the victim, her mother, 40-year-old Latonya Harris, another child and her mother’s boyfriend, 41-year-old Terrence Washington.

Washington got into an accident on Interstate 10 while driving recklessly on his way to Texas, and police said they were horrified to find the victim in the back seat with injuries unrelated to the accident.

Soignet said the girl had “extensive burns over most of her upper body and multiple gunshot wounds.”

Police said Washington admitted to sexually assaulting the girl and shooting her with a shotgun, and also admitted knowing that Harris had set her on fire.

Soignet said they also took the 10-year-old child into custody.

“I would say they are pure evil.”

Investigators believe the teenager was abused for months in the couple’s trailer in Terrebonne Parish.

Washington and Harris were arrested and the teenager was taken to a hospital for treatment of her serious injuries.

Soignet found it difficult to understand what motive they might have had for the cruel abuse.

“I would say they are pure evil. They may have mental problems. They know the difference between right and wrong,” he continued.

“You have to be a monster to tell a child and make it seem like it’s his fault.”

The teen’s identity has not been released, but her father and stepmother spoke to WVUE-TV about her health condition.

Timothy Johnson said he got a call about his daughter the day after the car crash, but he thought it was a joke and hung up. When he realized it wasn’t a joke, he and the girl’s stepmother immediately drove to visit her.

“The doctor said, ‘Get ready before you go in,'” LaTricia Johnson said.

“I walked into the room. I fell. My sister and the nurse had to try to grab me,” said Timothy Johnson.

They said half of the teen’s face was burned and one of her eyes had to be removed. She was permanently disfigured and had lost several teeth.

“They took a lot from her physically, mentally and emotionally,” LaTricia Johnson added.

“It hurts to hear her tell me everything she went through and no one had a clue,” Timothy Johnson continued. “You have to be a monster to tell a child and make it seem like it was their fault.”

He says he allowed his daughter to live with Harris after she expressed a desire to reconnect with her mother. The father now regrets this fateful decision.

They say the teenager was initially allowed to contact them, but the interactions became less frequent and eventually stopped altogether.

“If you didn’t want her, you could have brought her back. You could have called. We would have come and picked her up. “I could have taken her back where she was loved,” said LaTricia Johnson.

They said that despite the horror she has been through, she wants to study law and help other children suffering from abuse.

The family has set up a GoFundMe fundraising page to help pay for her lengthy medical procedures.

“I cannot put into words or understand how someone would do such a thing to their child,” concluded Soignet.
