According to a release from the Cambridge Police Department, police are actively investigating a reported sexual assault that occurred in Cambridge on Friday evening.

Cambridge Police responded to the area of ​​Cambridgepark Drive for an assault in progress after 9pm on May 17th. The victim, whose identity was not initially released, described the attacker as a masked man with a knife.

Investigators were processing a crime scene in the bathroom of a commercial building.

State police and the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office are assisting Cambridge police in the investigation. According to officials, an additional police presence has been established throughout the area as a precautionary measure.

Anyone with information about a possible attacker can anonymously call Cambridge’s tip line at 617-349-9151. Officials initially did not provide any further information about the investigation.
