Convicted felon arrested and charged with reckless conduct in Athens after firing a gun into the air

Athens Clarke-County police said they recovered several firearms from a felon who fired his weapon at an apartment complex.

Officers with the ACCPD Gang Unit say they served a search warrant for an apartment in the Rolling Ridge Apartment complex.

During their search, they found six guns in the possession of 38-year-old Demetrius Lumpkin of Athens.

Officers said they confiscated four handguns, a pistol-grip AR rifle and a 12-gauge semi-automatic shotgun, as well as high-capacity magazines.

ACCPD officers charged Lumpkin with reckless conduct, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and tampering with evidence. The warrant added additional charges as the initial incident included six counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and two counts of reckless conduct.

Police say the additional charges stem from a reckless conduct incident on May 12 in which Lumpkin fired his gun at his apartment complex.
