FC Dallas and Dynamo settle for a 1-1 draw

Petar Musa’s 69th-minute goal responded to Amine Bassi’s late first-half score to help FC Dallas earn a 1-1 draw against the Houston Dynamo on Saturday night.

Trailing 1-0, Dallas (3-6-3, 12 points) intensified its pressure in the second half and took advantage of a turnover in Houston. Musa gained possession, then dropped the ball for Jesus Ferreira to find Bernard Kamungo, who sent a cross for Musa open to score his fifth goal of the season.

This score eclipsed that of Bassi in the sixth minute of stoppage time in the first half for Houston (5-5-3, 18 points). With the result, FC Dallas, which won 2-0 at home against Houston last month, extended its unbeaten streak in the Texas Derby to 1-0-3 and retained bragging rights.

It was only the second point in six away matches for Dallas this season.

Houston, in the middle of a 1-3-2 stretch, was the aggressor early in the game, with Griffin Dorsey forcing Dallas goalie Maarten Paes to be on his toes with saves quickly out of the gate. Dynamo, who finished with 61.3 percent possession of the match and had an 8-1 advantage in shots on target, found their pressing rhythm.

Just before the break, Daniel Steres collected the ball on the left wing and sent a stellar pass into the box for Bassi to convert his first MLS goal in 11 matches this season after recording 10 in 28 last season.

Dallas, however, showed some life after 10 minutes had passed in the second half. Ferreira had an open look from the center of the area in the 56th minute, but his shot went high. In the 66th minute, veteran Dynamo goalkeeper Steve Clark turned away a bouncing header from Sébastien Ibeagha off a Dallas corner.

Three minutes later, Dallas finally answered when Musa, Kamungo and Ferreira teamed up. Meanwhile, Clark apparently took a knee to the head during the game and was forced to leave and be replaced by 30-year-old Andrew Tarbell for his first league action in 2024.
