Biden heads to Atlanta for Morehouse launch and campaign event

ATLANTA — President Joe Biden is expected in Atlanta this weekend for two events, including one that drew negative public reactions.

11Alive plans to stream the president’s arrival in the video player below; come back later to find out more.

In the interview, Morehouse College President David Thomas said he was prepared to cancel the ceremony if the protests became disruptive.

“The last thing we want to do is create a moment where someone is excluded by law enforcement because they are disruptive,” he told NPR. “Faced with the choice of having police remove people from the Morehouse opening with zip ties, we would essentially cancel or discontinue on-site opening services.”

“We will allow quiet, non-disruptive protests,” Thomas said. “So, you know, I’ve had students ask me about this: What if, you know, we turn our backs on the president or turn our chairs? And I told them: I’ll be embarrassed, but that’s not your problem As long as you don’t behave in a way that deprives others of the opportunity to participate, consume and celebrate this moment for their graduates, if you want to walk across the stage in clothing that identifies your moral connection with. on either side of this conflict, you can do it.”
