Friends remember man killed in hit-and-run crash in Oklahoma City

Friends gather around the family of a man killed in a hit-and-run accident in southwest Oklahoma City.

Eberardo Nievez, a staff member at US Grant High School, died Wednesday evening.

Friends and colleagues said he was riding his bike to his second job when he was hit by a driver leaving the scene of an accident.

They said he took this second job to help his family, including one of his daughters who will graduate high school this week.

Police were called to a stretch of SW 63rd Street near Western Avenue just before 10 p.m. Wednesday.

Nievez worked as a library assistant at US Grant High School.

His colleagues remember his legacy and have created a GoFundMe to help with funeral costs.

Those colleagues said they received a cake delivery for Teacher Appreciation Week this week after his death. It was a cake that Nievez had ordered as a surprise for his colleagues.

“It’s so devastating for her, and it’s heartbreaking for me,” said his colleague Melanie Berry. “That’s not even the expression of the pain I know they’re going through, but it’s all the words I have to say.”

Colleagues said his family told them that Oklahoma City police had arrested the driver.

This driver’s name has not been released.
