Man arrested in connection with stolen vehicle from airport

A man found in possession of a stolen car was arrested this weekend, police said.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – A man found in possession of a stolen vehicle from the Memphis Airport was arrested May 11, according to Shelby County Court records.

Antonio George, 24, was charged with theft of property valued between $10,000 and $60,000, a Class C felony. This came after police received a tip that a stolen vehicle was left in a woman’s carport.

According to an affidavit, officers were called by an unknown complainant who told them there was a woman with warrants on Kensett Drive.

Officers said they responded to the scene and took the woman into custody.

While they were there, they received another call from the complainant informing them that the car in the carport had been stolen, the affidavit states. According to the affidavit, officers ran the vehicle’s VIN and it returned stolen from the Memphis airport.

The affidavit states that according to a witness at the scene, the suspect arrived at her home at 4:00 a.m. in the Infiniti and parked in the carport

Officers reportedly took George into custody and took him to the station.

The witness went to the station and used a body-worn camera to describe the facts of the incident, the affidavit states.

According to the affidavit, she positively identified George as the person she saw parking the vehicle in her carport based on a photo array of six people.

Police reportedly estimated the vehicle’s value at $28,400.

The owner of the stolen Infiniti told officers that he did not know George and had not given him permission to own his vehicle, according to the affidavit.

George’s next court date is Monday, May 13th.
