Man arrested in connection with April shooting in Connecticut

BRIDGEPORT — A 25-year-old local man was arrested Tuesday in connection with a shooting last month that left him and another person injured, police said.

According to Bridgeport police, Elijah M. Vines was charged with assault, weapons violations and other crimes following an investigation into the April 8 shooting at a BP gas station on Fairfield Avenue.

Officers reported to the station at 11:20 p.m. after receiving multiple ShotSpotter alerts and calls from citizens reporting shots fired.

They found evidence of a shooting, secured the area and called investigators.

Vines later showed up at a hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the leg, police said.

He was identified as a participant in the shooting.

Detective Aaron Rivera, who led the investigation, collected evidence and witness statements over the following weeks.

On April 25, Rivera obtained a warrant for Vines’ arrest, charging him with criminal attempt-first-degree assault, criminal possession of a firearm, illegal discharge of a firearm and reckless endangerment.

The U.S. Marshal’s Violent Fugitive Task Force and local patrol officers located Vines on May 9 in the city’s South End.

He was taken into custody without incident, processed by police and held on $350,000 bail.

Vines was arraigned the next day in Bridgeport Superior Court.

The investigation continues and authorities encourage anyone with additional information to contact Detective Rivera at 203-581-5179.
