Statesboro couple among four dead in overnight crash

Four people died in a car accident in Jenkins County, Georgia, shortly after midnight Friday evening.

Jenkins County 911 received a call at 12:10 a.m. Saturday, May 11, 2024, regarding a head-on crash on the highway. 25 on Gays Hill Church Road.

Jenkins County Coroner Henry Young confirmed that Lee and Lynde Johnson of Statesboro died in the crash. Corner Young said Lee, 62, and Lynde Johnson are from Jenkins County.

The second vehicle caught fire after the impact. A woman and a child were killed in the second vehicle. They have not been identified at this time.

Coroner Young said their bodies were taken to the GBI crime lab in Atlanta for help identifying what he believes to be the mother and child. He doesn’t believe they are native to the area.

The investigation is being conducted by Georgia State Patrol troopers from Post 21 in Sylvania.
