Richard Simmons’ housekeeper believes fitness guru died of a heart attack

Richard Simmons’ long-time housekeeper believes the late fitness guru died of a heart attack – but the official cause of death is still under investigation.

Teresa Reveles discovered Simmons’ body the morning after his 76th birthday and noticed that his hands were clenched into fists.

“That’s how I know it was a heart attack,” she said in an interview with People magazine published Monday. “I had a heart attack a few years ago and my hands experienced the same thing.”

Reveles added that her boss seemed “peaceful” and was convinced that he “died happily.”

Although Simmons’ autopsy has been completed, toxicology results are still pending.

Reveles, who called herself his “mate,” moved into Simmons’ household in 1986 and spent the rest of her life with him, something she said Simmons had predicted decades ago.

“‘Teresa, come in, you’re never leaving. We’re going to be together until I die,'” she recalled Simmons saying.

“And you know what? His dream came true,” she told the publication. “He somehow knew it.”

Reveles also confirmed a report claiming that the fitness star fell in his bathroom on his birthday but refused medical attention because he did not want to spend the special day in the hospital.

“Why don’t we wait and do it tomorrow morning,” Simmons said to her.

“But in the morning it was too late,” she said of his premature death.

A week after Simmons’ death, a private funeral was held in Los Angeles for Simmons’ closest family and friends.

Lenny, the weight-loss activist’s brother, asked Richard’s fans to “remember him for the genuine joy and love he brought into people’s lives.” He added that Richard “truly cared about people” because “he called, wrote and emailed thousands of people throughout his career to offer them help.”

Lenny urged, “So don’t be sad. Celebrate his life.”
