A United Airlines spokesperson described the situation to the Washington Post as critical, noting that both crew members and passengers were feeling unwell, prompting pilots to request a diversion, the report added.

“I’ve spoken to the crew and it sounds like it’s pretty bad back there. The crew is vomiting and passengers everywhere are asking for masks,” a crew member said in an audio recording of the flight. “Since this is a biohazard, I think we need to get the plane on the ground as soon as possible,” they added.

Flight 2477 en route to Boston was diverted and landed safely at Washington Dulles Airport.
