Homicide investigation underway after body found in creek: NHPD

Police said the medical examiner’s office determined Rivera’s cause of death was homicide by strangulation.

NEW HAVEN, Connecticut — A homicide investigation is underway in New Haven after a body was found in a creek Friday, city police said Tuesday.

Officers responded to the area of ​​Hemingway Street at Eastern Street at 7:10 a.m. Friday after receiving a report of a man lying face down in a creek, police said.

The man, later identified as Miguel Rivera, 62, of New Haven, was pronounced dead at the scene by firefighters, according to police. A preliminary examination of Rivera at the scene by the chief medical examiner’s office found no signs of trauma.

In a press release Tuesday, police said the OCME performed an autopsy and determined Rivera’s cause of death to be homicide by strangulation.
