Drowning accident on Wateree River; rescue efforts underway

KERSHAW COUNTY, SC — Rescue crews are on the scene of a person suspected of drowning along the Wateree River.

The Kershaw County Fire Department said members of their team, the Lugoff Fire Department and Kershaw County Emergency Services were called to the 1600 block of Tail Race Road in Lugoff around 4:30 p.m. for a possible drowning behind the Lake Wateree dam.

Details of the incident were not available, but members of the Camden and Kershaw County emergency crews requested divers. Officials said the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources was also called to the scene.
