Police dog in York County with over ten years of experience dies

YORK COUNTY, Pennsylvania (WHTM) – A York County police dog who served for about a decade died Monday.

K9 Captain Dargo was 12 years old when he died and was the partner of Lt. David Godfrey for 10.5 years, the York County Sheriff’s Office announced in a Facebook post.

“Dargo enjoyed every minute of his service as a police dog,” the post reads. “The bond between the two of you was instant and will forever be unbreakable. You were a perfect fit. Captain Dargo will always be remembered as one of the biggest stars in York County and beyond.”

K9 Dargo was born in Czechoslovakia in November 2011 and was a purebred German Shepherd. His full name is Dargo Bett Silver, according to the county sheriff’s website. Dargo was trained in explosives detection, tracking, searching and other detection skills.

“Thank you for everything Captain Dargo. You have crossed the rainbow bridge and it’s time for you to eat and enjoy as much steak, cake, cheese and brisket as you like! We love and miss you forever,” the post read.
