12-year-old girl kidnapped and raped at knifepoint in Kasaragod; police suspect she knew attacker | News from Kerala

Kasaragod: A 12-year-old girl was kidnapped at knifepoint and sexually assaulted while she was on her way to a madrasa, according to a complaint registered by the Bekal police on Monday. The attack took place around 7 am a month ago, the girl told the Bekal police on Sunday evening.

According to the complaint, the girl was gagged with a scarf and allegedly attacked during a sit-in at a building near the Grama Panchayat office near her house. She reportedly told police that the attacker was a migrant worker.

However, a medical examination at the district hospital in Kanhangad confirmed a sexual assault with penetration. “But the doctors said her wounds were a week old. Not more than two weeks old,” said an investigating officer.

Police have not ruled out that the attack was committed by someone they know. Suspicions were strengthened after police checked the building where the attack allegedly took place and found contradictions in her statement.

The girl is the youngest of eight siblings and lives in her mother’s home for her education. Her eldest sister is married. “She told her eldest sister about her ordeal when they both visited their father’s house recently,” the official said.
