Hurricane Beryl’s aftermath in Houston, Texas

Now that the storm has passed, leaving damage and millions without power, KHOU 11 is turning its attention to cleanup and recovery.

HOUSTON — Beryl struck the Houston area as a Category 1 hurricane. By the time it passed a few hours later, at least seven people in Harris and Montgomery counties had died. Others suffered extensive damage to their homes and millions of customers lost power.

Boil Water Advisory Issued for Harris County MUD 421 and FWSD 45

With immediate effect, the Harris County MUD 421 The water system has issued a precautionary boil water advisory to its residents due to a loss of pressure caused by a temporary issue with the water plant generator due to Hurricane Beryl. Harris County MUD 421 is located in northeast Harris County and serves residents of the Imperial Forest subdivision in the area of ​​Highway 90 and S Lake Houston Parkway. Crews are working to repair the generator and restore water pressure; however, we do not currently have an estimated time frame for water to be restored.

CenterPoint hopes to restore power to 1 million customers by Wednesday night

Hurricane Beryl left more than 3 million customers without power, most of them CenterPoint customers, in the Greater Houston area.

Power companies and city officials say it will be a multi-day outage for most customers because the damage is extensive and widespread.

In an update Monday night, CenterPoint said it hoped to restore power to 1 million customers by the end of the day Wednesday, but customers in the hardest-hit areas “may experience extended outages and should plan accordingly.” As of 8 p.m., more than 1.9 million CenterPoint customers were still without power.

Crews are assessing the damage and will begin repairs as soon as possible. However, thousands of out-of-town crews were not deployed to Houston ahead of Hurricane Beryl as they were during previous hurricanes.

At least 10 transmission lines are down, according to acting Gov. Dan Patrick.

CenterPoint Power Outage Update

As of 1:15 p.m., more than 1.6 million CenterPoint customers were still without power, up from 2.26 million at the height of the storm.

METRO changes its service on Tuesday

The METRO will resume some services on Tuesday, but on a limited basis.

“Our crews are continually assessing conditions and will work diligently to identify and resolve any issues caused by the storm. We are committed to providing safe and reliable transportation and will fully resume service when it is safe to do so,” METRO said in a statement.

Below are the service adjustments customers should expect.

  • Park-and-ride : All services will remain suspended.
  • Local bus: To allow additional time to assess road conditions, partial service will not begin until 8 a.m. Routes scheduled to begin at this time include: 02, 08, 20, 26, 28, 38, 39, 40, 44, 50, 52, 54, 56, 63, 65, 73, 80, 82, 85 and 89Delays and detours are possible, and some lines will not operate until later today.   • METRORail: Service on all three lines will remain suspended due to power and signal outages. As resources become available, we will provide bus shuttles and resume train operations. Check out the latest service information here.
  • Lanes reserved for multi-occupancy vehicles (MOV): All express lanes operated by METRO will remain closed.
  • METROLift and curb2curb: Service will resume at 8am. Previous trips will be rescheduled, where possible.
  • Customer Service and RideStores: Will operate during their normal hours.
