Marion woman arrested for writing bad checks to Orient American Legion

BENTON – The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Marion woman on a warrant Monday for writing checks that were returned due to insufficient funds.

Sheriff Kyle Bacon says that on June 19, the sheriff’s office received a complaint from the American Legion Post #1961 in Orient alleging that 44-year-old Nicole D. Keen had written numerous checks totaling $1,040 to the Orient American Legion. Each of the checks was returned due to insufficient funds. Officers gathered information and turned the case over to the Franklin County District Attorney’s Office. A warrant was soon issued for Keen’s arrest on the misdemeanor charge of deceptive business practices.

On Monday, Keen was located and taken into custody based on the warrant. At the time of her arrest, Keen was on pretrial release after previously being arrested in September 2023.

Due to the new offense, Keen’s pretrial release was revoked and she remains in custody at the Franklin County Jail.
