ICE in Massachusetts catches illegal immigrant wanted for child rape after being released into the US years earlier

Federal immigration authorities have arrested an illegal immigrant who was wanted in his home country for child rape and was hiding in the United States.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents arrested an Ecuadorian national whose identity is still unknown in western Massachusetts last month, the agency said Tuesday. The man entered the United States illegally in 2021 and is wanted in his home country for allegedly raping a child.

“This Ecuadorian refugee is facing some very serious charges, but rather than face justice, he fled and attempted to seek refuge in Massachusetts,” Todd Lyons, Boston field director of Enforcement and Removal Operations, said in a statement about the arrest.

“He posed a significant threat to the children of our communities, and we cannot allow that to happen,” Lyons continued. “ERO Boston will continue to put the safety of our public first by apprehending and deporting serious, non-citizen offenders from New England.”

According to the agency, Border Patrol agents arrested the Ecuadorian national on June 4, 2021, after he illegally crossed the U.S.-Mexico border near San Luis, Arizona. Border Patrol agents allowed him into the country after serving him a summons to appear before an immigration judge.

The Ecuadorian government issued an arrest warrant for the illegal immigrant on May 16, 2023, after he was accused of rape of a minor and invasion of privacy, according to ICE. Boston deportation officials arrested him on June 12 near his home in Northampton, Massachusetts – less than a month after his arrest warrant was issued and he was listed as a fugitive offender.

This is far from the first time ICE agents have arrested an illegal immigrant seeking refuge in the United States while wanted in his home country for heinous crimes.

ICE agents arrested 11 different illegal immigrants in a nationwide raid in numerous major cities last month, the agency recently announced. Among those arrested were foreign nationals wanted for a variety of human rights violations, including extrajudicial killings, rape, forced abortions and sterilizations, religious persecution and enforced disappearances.

As the immigration crisis continues to rage, thousands of criminal aliens have reached the U.S.-Mexico border under the Biden administration.

Since President Joe Biden took office, border agents have encountered more than seven million illegal immigrants, according to the latest data from Customs and Border Protection (CBP). Among the migrants encountered are more than 50,000 criminal aliens.
