Quincy man faces two firearms charges after shooting outside TJ Maxx on Saturday – Muddy River News

QUINCY – A 21-year-old Quincy man is in the Adams County Jail facing two felony charges following a shooting Saturday afternoon.

Alan C. Pacheco was taken into custody and charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm, a Class 1 felony punishable by the Illinois Department of Corrections by between five and 15 years in prison, and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, a Class 4 felony punishable by between one and three years in prison, if convicted.

Officers with the Quincy Police Department were dispatched to 6210 Broadway at 2:28 p.m. on Saturday, July 6, for a shooting incident in the parking lot in front of TJ Maxx. Officers from the Quincy Police Department, Adams County Sheriff’s Department and Illinois State Police responded and found a 22-year-old male victim on the ground with apparent gunshot wounds.

Pacheco was arrested a short time later after returning to the scene. He and the man who was shot were allegedly involved in an altercation in the parking lot prior to the shooting. The victim suffered serious injuries and was taken to Blessing Hospital for treatment. In a press release from Quincy police late Saturday evening, the victim was said to be in stable condition.

According to earlier reports from Quincy police, a second person was arrested, but a Quincy police official said Saturday evening that person was questioned and released.

Pacheco’s first appearance in an Adams County courtroom is expected on Monday afternoon.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone who witnessed the incident or has video of it — and did not speak to police officers — is asked to contact Quincy Police Investigations at 217-228-4470. The Quincy Police Department was assisted by the Adams County Sheriff’s Department, Illinois State Police, Quincy Fire Department, Tri-Township Fire Department and Adams County Ambulance.
