East Providence Police Identify Two Kayakers Found Dead

EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — The two missing kayakers found dead Friday were identified by East Providence police on Saturday.

The names released by police were 52-year-old Joseph Fritz of East Providence and 37-year-old Gregory Boerman of Allston, Massachusetts.

According to police, concerned family members contacted authorities when neither of the two men returned home after kayaking on Omega Pond on Thursday evening.

Police said that during the search, a body was found in the water next to two empty kayaks, and that a second body was discovered not long later.

The investigation into this incident is ongoing.
