Two people arrested for the death of a child

CHRISTIANSBURG, Virginia. – On June 28, 2024, Christiansburg Police arrested 37-year-old Heather Renee Bentley of Christiansburg and 39-year-old Eric Raymond Thad Callis of Christiansburg for the death of a small child.

On June 13, 2024, Christiansburg Police responded to a 911 call regarding an unresponsive child in the 100 block of First St. SW. Upon arrival, officers found a dead 2-year-old girl.

The Christiansburg Police Department would like to thank Christiansburg Emergency Medical Services, Montgomery County Detention Center and Montgomery County Social Services who also responded to the scene.

After an investigation into the death, Christiansburg police charged both Bentley and Callis with child neglect. Callis is being held in the Montgomery County Jail without Bail. Bentley is being held without bail at the Western Virginia Regional Jail.

The investigation is ongoing and further charges may be pending.
