Foster parent Nathan Woodsspringer jailed for raping toddlers

As York Crown Court heard, 37-year-old Nathan Woodsspringer filmed himself abusing the young children.

His actions came to light when two of the victims told other foster parents about his actions, who then informed the authorities and the police.

In sentencing, York District Judge Sean Morris told him: “You committed the most unforgivable and shocking form of sexual misconduct against very young children who were highly vulnerable.”

He praised the way the other foster parents had informed the authorities and added: “One bad apple in the world of foster care should not reflect badly on the excellent work that foster parents do.”

Woodsspring, of Springfield Road, Sherburn-in-Elmet, pleaded guilty to 23 charges including rape, sexual assault, taking images of children, downloading images of children from the internet and voyeurism.

Glenn Parsons said he was otherwise a “kind, gentle carer” who was suffering from isolation and depression at the time and had difficulty coping with recent bereavements.

After his arrest, the defendant himself informed the police of further criminal offences of which they were unaware and pleaded guilty to all charges.
