Man from Walker allegedly tortured and raped woman for 13 hours

BATON ROUGE – A woman is lucky to be alive after she was allegedly forced to perform oral sex, raped, beaten with a hammer, dragged through her home by her hair and locked in her own attic by David Coutee.

The man police say is responsible for the heinous acts, 38-year-old David Coutee of Walker, was arrested by the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office and is awaiting extradition to Baton Rouge to face multiple charges.

According to Baton Rouge police, the alleged 13-hour torture began at approximately 11:30 p.m. on June 11 and lasted until approximately 12:20 p.m. on June 12, 2024.

David Coutee, 38, of Walker

On June 11, Coutee went to a home in the 12000 block of Goodwood Blvd. as the victim had asked her to move items to the side of the road. While inside the home, police say Coutee became angry because the victim suspected there was another man in the home. Although she told him there was no other man in the home, the victim told police that Coutee became “increasingly aggressive” and she then asked him to leave, but he refused.

“As the victim sat on the bed, the defendant (Coutee) struck her in the face and forced her to walk naked through the house with him. The beating became more violent when the defendant attempted to drag the victim by her hair into the attic,” an arrest warrant for Coutee states.

Police determined that as the victim attempted to break free, Coutee fell on top of her and then began hitting her in the face and head area with a flashlight. He allegedly grabbed her by the neck and put her in a headlock until she lost consciousness.

At this point, the victim told officers she remembered Coutee allegedly hitting her and smelling her urine, causing her to pee herself. She was afraid of what he might do next, so she told officers she followed him into the attic. There, she was allegedly forced to perform oral sex on him twice, until she vomited both times. She was forced to lick his butt before he allegedly raped her from behind while “she begged him to stop.” He is accused of forcing her to perform oral sex again before they searched the attic together for the man, who was not there.

About 20 minutes later, Coutee allegedly helped the victim out of the attic and they searched the house again. This time, however, he found two coffee cups in the trash can, which angered him.

“As the victim was lying on the kitchen floor, the defendant ran toward the victim and kicked her in the ribs. When she stood up, he kicked her in the back and stomach. At some point, the victim was hit on various parts of her body with a hammer,” the arrest warrant states.

The victim was taking a shower at the time, but Coutee allegedly went in with her and threatened to hit her with the showerhead if she didn’t tell him about the man in the house. According to the documents, the woman gave the name of an ex-boyfriend in hopes that he would stop hitting her. Instead, he allegedly “dragged the victim through the house where she begged him to leave her alone” because “she felt like she was dying.”

However, she was forced to perform oral sex again until she vomited. He is then accused of raping her a second time.

The victim told police she remembers him allegedly setting paper towels on fire to “drive the man out of the house.” He is also accused of locking the front door so he couldn’t escape, slamming a baseball bat on the floor and smashing it, hitting her in her private area, and cutting her hair.

He allegedly threatened to stay with her to make sure she didn’t call the police. He eventually called his father and left the house, allowing the victim to get to a hospital.

Baton Rouge police officers responded to a hospital around 7 p.m. on June 12 for a sexual assault report. Police say the victim was “physically abused, with injuries to more than 50% of her body” and she had “a ruptured eardrum, affecting her hearing, as well as low pressure in both eyes as a result of the defendant (Coutee) repeatedly striking her in the face with his fist and a flashlight.”

Coutee is accused of the following:

  • 1 case of first degree rape
  • 1 count of aggravated assault in the second degree
  • 1 count of deprivation of liberty; perpetrator armed with a dangerous weapon
  • 1 case of serious damage to property
  • 1 count of grievous bodily harm
