Father shot dead at gas station in Milwaukee, two teenagers arrested

The family of a Milwaukee father shot and killed at a gas station Monday is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to a conviction in the case. Milwaukee police said 42-year-old David Brent Jr. was shot and killed at the Hometown gas station near 32nd Street and Fond Du Lac Avenue just before 10 p.m. Monday. Brent’s family said they are still in shock. “He would do anything for anybody,” Brent’s cousin said. According to Brent’s family, the father of four was walking home when a group tried to rob him. During the altercation, Brent was shot. The Milwaukee County coroner said Brent died at the scene. At a vigil Friday, family and friends gathered at the gas station, a place filled with pain, to remember the joy Brent brought to their lives. “He loved this city, man. It’s tough. It’s tough,” a friend of Brent’s family said. “He played a huge role in the lives of all the kids in our family. He would take them to the park and make sure everyone was OK,” said Qwashala Harris, Brent’s cousin. Harris said Brent was a devoted grandfather and has another grandchild on the way. “Their grandfather isn’t going to be able to pick them up. He’s not going to be able to see them, grow up or anything,” Harris said. That gas station was cordoned off with crime scene tape last June when police said someone shot and killed a Two Rivers man. Brent’s loved ones said it’s a pain too many families know. “We don’t even want to be out here after dark because it’s bad here. And none of the representatives from the area are saying there’s no change. Milwaukee has been going downhill for years and it’s getting worse,” Harris said. Milwaukee police said officers arrested two 16-year-olds in connection with the shooting, but those teens have not yet been charged. Milwaukee police are still asking for the public’s help. Anyone with any information is asked to contact Milwaukee Police at 414-935-7360 or, to remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 414-224-Tips or P3 Tips. Brent’s family is offering a $10,000 reward for any information leading to a conviction.

Milwaukee police said someone shot 42-year-old David Brent Jr. at the Hometown gas station near 32nd Street and Fond Du Lac Avenue shortly before 10 p.m. Monday.

Brent’s family said they are still in shock.

“He would do anything for anyone,” said Brent’s cousin.

At a vigil Friday, family and friends gathered at the gas station, a place filled with pain, to remember the joy Brent brought to their lives.

“He played a huge role in the lives of all the children in our family. He took them to the park and made sure everyone was OK,” said Qwashala Harris, Brent’s cousin.

Harris said Brent was a devoted grandfather and he was expecting another grandchild.

“Her grandfather won’t be able to pick her up. He won’t be able to see her, see her grow or anything,” Harris said.

This gas station had crime scene tape posted last June when police say someone shot and killed a Two Rivers man.

Brent’s relatives said it was a pain that many families know.

“We don’t even want to be out here after dark because it’s bad. And none of the representatives from the region are saying there’s no change. Milwaukee has been going downhill for years and it’s getting worse,” Harris said.

Milwaukee police said officers arrested two 16-year-olds in connection with the shooting, but no charges have been filed against those teens. Milwaukee police continue to ask for the public’s help.
