One pilot died and another was injured in a collision between two planes in Idaho

June 21 (UPI) – A collision between two planes in the air in Idaho on Thursday left one pilot dead and the other hospitalized.

The Butte County Sheriff’s Office said it received a report of an accident involving two agricultural aircraft outside of Arco in southwest Idaho around 1 p.m. MDT.

“The planes collided in mid-air and both crashed in a sage and grassy area,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement.

One of the pilots died in the crash and another was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries, the sheriff’s office said. The condition of the surviving pilot was unknown Friday morning.

The names of the pilots have not been released pending notification of next of kin.

The National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration are investigating what may have caused the crash.
