Madhya Pradesh government revokes Som Distilleries license over child labor concerns

The child rights organisation will send a notice to the Madhya Pradesh government on the allegations of child labour at Som Distilleries. The state has not properly discharged its responsibilities, NCPCR Chairman Priyank Kanoongo told NDTV Profit.

SDPL has a bottling capacity of more than seven million cases per year. The company is part of the Som group of companies, which also includes the listed company Som Distilleries and Breweries Ltd.

The brewery told the stock exchanges on Wednesday that no department had taken any action against the company and clarified that the child labour cases reported in the media refer to the private company SDPL, which primarily deals in local liquor and is under a different management.

Shares of Som Distilleries and Breweries, the makers of Hunter and Woodpecker beer, have fallen 7% in the last two days. The shares closed 0.84% lower at Rs 115.9 apiece on Wednesday, compared to an unchanged BSE Sensex.
