Eight arrests in robbery investigation in Washington, one more pending

WASHINGTON, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – Washington police have arrested eight suspects in connection with an armed robbery at a commercial area in the 900 block of W. National Highway and are still searching for another.

Detective Sgt. Stacy Reese of the Washington Police Department said a juvenile was shot in the incident Friday morning.

“We are currently investigating an armed robbery that ended in a shooting,” she said. “It involves several juvenile suspects as well as victims whose names we cannot release at this time. We have eight people in custody.”

Reese said several agencies on the scene immediately assisted investigators in the case.

“We received information on the ground that led us to the juveniles we found and who are currently in custody,” she said.

Reese said the public has been a big help in this case.

“Several businesses in the city were very open to showing us their surveillance footage, which helped us piece together the story of this incident,” she said. “Without their help, we would not have gotten this far in the investigation.

Despite these recent breakthroughs, Reese said the next big step cannot be taken until the last suspect is arrested.

“We still have one person we are trying to find,” she said. “Once that person is found, the matter will be forwarded to the prosecutor’s office, and they will go to the court to determine what happens to these juvenile and adult suspects.”

The only name released so far in the case is that of 18-year-old Edgar Pedraza, who has been charged with conspiracy to commit robbery.
