Houston Dynamo adds forward Ezequial Ponce in team’s highest ever transfer fee

HOUSTON (KIAH) — The Houston Dynamo have added forward Ezequiel Ponce in a full transfer from AEK Athens to Greece, a signing the club is calling the highest transfer fee in its history.

Ponce, 27, will be with Dynamo on a full transfer until June 2027 with an option for 2028.

The striker has scored 65 goals in several major championships in South America and Europe and has played in matches in the UEFA Champions League and Europa League.

“We conducted an exhaustive, global search for a new starting striker, and Ezequiel was our number one target. He has experience scoring in the biggest competitions in the world, he fits our playing model perfectly, and his character and professionalism are exemplary,” said Dynamo general manager Pat Onstad.

Ponce joins a Houston team looking for an offensive boost. Dynamo is ninth in Major League Soccer with 88 shots on goal, an average of 5.2 per game.

Ponce’s first match with the Dynamo will be on Wednesday as the Dynamo host the Seattle Sounders at Shell Energy Stadium at 7:30 p.m.
