The 42-year-old woman killed in a Marietta apartment over the weekend was identified on social media as a first-year surgical resident at the Morehouse School of Medicine.

“Your friend was brutally attacked and murdered overnight, she is dead,” said Marietta police officer Chuck McPhilamy.

She had visible cuts, was unresponsive and appeared to be dead.

Marietta police responded and began investigating. They found evidence that led them to believe Woolrey knew her attacker and that the possible suspect had left the state.

Arrest in connection with the death of a Marietta doctor

On Monday afternoon, they announced that Woolery’s 49-year-old ex-husband, Mickey Anthony Woolery, had been taken into custody by police in Carmel, Indiana, Mickey Woolrey’s primary residence.

Investigators say they used technology, including license plate readers, to track Woolery to Indiana. Police in Carmel, Indiana, found him at a home but said he did not leave voluntarily.

“He attempted to flee from officers and was later arrested in a wooded area behind the house. He is a violent fugitive who will now be held accountable,” said Officer McPhilamy.
