Dispute over firearm leaves one dead and two injured in Cass County

CASS COUNTY, Texas – A person was killed Friday after a dispute over a gun in a pickup truck south of Linden.

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a shooting around 9 p.m. Friday. The driver of a Ford 150 and three passengers in the back seat were traveling south on U.S. Highway 59 when the shooting occurred, according to the sheriff’s office.

“It is alleged that one of the occupants pulled out a gun, which led to a struggle for the weapon during which several shots were fired. Three people in the back seat were injured by the gunfire,” the press release said.

Christopher Escobar of Elsa, Texas, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The other passengers were taken to a nearby hospital. One of them was treated and released, the other remains in stable condition.

The driver did not suffer any gunshot wounds, the sheriff’s office said.

As of Sunday morning, no arrests had been made.

The investigation is ongoing.
