Weekly Police Report for the Colonie Region, June 12: Weapons Offenses Following Domestic Incident

Three people arrested at Econo Lodge on Central Avenue

COLONY – A Bronx man and a man and woman from Schenectady were arrested on weapons charges at the Econo Lodge on Central Avenue after Colonie police responded to a domestic incident at 5:52 a.m. Sunday, May 26.

According to reports, Marcus Cardona, 43, of the Bronx, was charged with criminal possession of a weapon, second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, criminal possession of a weapon – magazine and concealment of evidence – all felonies – as well as menacing with a weapon – a misdemeanor – and second-degree harassment – ​​a misdemeanor.

Destiny Ruiz, 22, of Schenectady, was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, unlawful possession of a weapon in the second degree, unlawful possession of a weapon – possession of a magazine, and concealment of evidence, all felonies.

Dennis Carter, 42, also of Schenectady, was charged with illegal possession of a weapon, second-degree illegal possession of a weapon, illegal possession of a weapon, illegal possession of a weapon – magazine possession – and concealing evidence – all felonies.

All three were remanded to the Albany County Jail and arraigned later that day.

Arrest warrant and fugitive

COLONY – The Albany County Probation Department took a 34-year-old Albany man into custody on Wednesday, May 22, for failure to appear in Colonie City Court in January, noting that he was wanted in another state.

It later emerged that Tahrik McKenzie was wanted in the US state of Georgia on the basis of an arrest warrant there.

He was taken to the Albany County Jail as a pretrial inmate.

Charged with family crimes and criminal contempt

ALBANY – A Loudonville man was arrested Wednesday, May 22, in Albany County Family Court on several felony charges related to two incidents in December at a Latham residence.

James Tillman, 37, was charged with aggravated family offense and first-degree criminal contempt (both felonies) for an incident on December 21. He was also charged with first-degree criminal contempt for an event on December 15 at the same address.

He was taken to the Albany County Jail as a pretrial detainee and arraigned that same evening.

No seatbelt, but arrest warrant

COLONY – Colonie police stopped a vehicle near the intersection of Albany Street and Marjorie Road around 9:35 a.m. on Wednesday, May 22, and ticketed a woman for not wearing a seatbelt.

Victoria Venable, 58, of Schenectady, had an arrest warrant issued by the City of Schenectady. She was arrested and brought before officers of that department.

DWI on Central

COLONY – A traffic stop on Central Avenue near the Niskayuna city limits on Thursday, May 23, resulted in the charging of a 66-year-old Niskayuna man with drunken driving.

According to reports, Colonie police stopped a 2008 Chevrolet pickup truck for traffic violations at 9:41 p.m. Officers noticed the driver had watery and bloodshot eyes, impaired coordination, and the odor of an alcoholic beverage was coming from his breath.

The man was given a breathalyzer test but failed and was taken into custody.

He gave a blood sample at the police station and was charged with driving under the influence, a misdemeanor, and received a ticket for failing to yield to the roadway and improper signaling.

The man was released on Monday, June 3, with a summons to appear in the Colonie City Courtroom.

Grand theft at Lowes

LATHAM – On Friday, May 24, Colonie Police arrested Bobby Whitaker, 56, of Latham, for grand larceny, a capital crime, in a room at the Quality Inn listed as his residence.

Officers reportedly recovered stolen property from the room. He was charged with grand larceny and released on May 29 with a summons to appear in Colonie Municipal Court.

The same car, two arrest warrants

COLONY – Colonie police stopped a car for traffic violations on Albany Street near the intersection with Colonie Plaza Drive on Friday, May 24, and a check of the driver and passenger revealed that both were wanted.

According to reports, 40-year-old Mark Root of Windsor Locks, Connecticut, had an arrest warrant issued by the Rotterdam Police Department. He was taken into custody, his records processed and brought before officers of that agency.

The passenger in the car, Ethel Singletary, 44, of Schenectady, had an arrest warrant issued by the City of Schenectady. She was taken into custody, the case was processed and brought to the police department of that agency.

Warranty

COLONY – A 26-year-old Hudson woman was taken into custody near BJ’s Restaurant on Wolf Road at approximately 11:49 p.m. Friday, May 24, for failure to appear in court.

The warrant was issued after Nicole Spillane allegedly failed to appear in court in August. She was taken to the Albany County Jail as a pretrial detainer and arraigned the next morning.

DWI

LATHAM – On Saturday, May 25, at 1:30 a.m., Colonie Police responded to the area around Troy Schenectady Road and stopped a driver on the northbound ramp to Northway.

According to reports, when officers questioned the driver, a 49-year-old man from Cohoes, he noticed that he had bloodshot and watery eyes and that his breath smelled of an alcoholic beverage.

The man refused all tests at the crime scene and at the police station.

He was charged with driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor, and ticketed for failing to stay in a single lane. He was given a summons to appear in Colonie Municipal Court on June 3 and released.

Criminal disregard

COLONY – Colonie police responded to a domestic dispute at the Courtyard by Marriott on Wolf Road at 11:35 p.m. on Sunday, May 26. Upon investigation, police found that Larry Alderman, 36, of Albany had a Victim Protection Order in place and had been convicted in the past of violating that order.

Alderman was charged with first-degree criminal contempt and remanded to the Albany County Jail. He was scheduled to appear in court the next day.

No driver’s license and DWI

COLONY – Colonie police stopped a New Jersey-registered car on Central Avenue at 2:06 a.m. Sunday, May 26, after it was speeding and traveling in the middle lane. The driver, a 42-year-old Albany man, did not have a license and was showing signs of impairment.

The man tested positive for breathalyzer alcohol using a preliminary test device and was taken into custody.

At the police station, he was charged with driving under the influence, a misdemeanor, and received a ticket for driving without a license and other traffic violations.

He was released on June 10 with a summons to appear in Colonie City Court.

Theft and arrest warrant

COLONY – On Monday, June 27, a Schenectady man was allegedly observed by anti-theft employees stealing items from the Target on Central Avenue and called police.

Police reportedly took 27-year-old Levi Brockway into custody and found that he was wanted on an outstanding warrant in Saratoga County.

Brockway received a summons to appear in Colonie Municipal Court on June 12 and was taken to a meeting with officials from the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office.

No driver’s license, no registration, no insurance, but drunk

LOUDONVILLE – Colonie Police responded to a one-car accident involving personal injury on Tuesday, June 28, and found the driver to be intoxicated.

According to reports, at 10:28 p.m., officers found a car that had left the road and crashed into a tree near 479 Loudon Road. They also noticed that the driver had bloodshot and watery eyes and his breath smelled of alcoholic beverage.

He was given a breathalyzer test, which he failed, and was taken into custody. An investigation revealed that the 22-year-old man from Fresno, California, did not have a driver’s license, the car’s registration was suspended, and he was uninsured.

He was charged with driving while intoxicated, operating an unregistered motor vehicle, reckless endangerment and reckless driving, all misdemeanors. He was also ticketed for driving without insurance, driving without a license, speeding, driving in the middle lane and failure to maintain the right lane.

He received a summons for June 10 and was released.

Warranty

LATHAM – Colonie Police responded to a call from a customer at the Microtel Inn at 8:57 p.m. on Tuesday, June 28.

According to reports, when officers checked the identification of 44-year-old Keisha Cooper of Rockville Centre, they discovered that she was wanted by state police in Clifton Park.

State police arrived at the scene to arrest them.

Accident during the day

LATHAM – An accident on Route 9 at the intersection with Kunker Avenue at 11:15 a.m. Friday, June 7, caused traffic delays in the area.
