Victim’s son in police custody and charged with murder of his father after shooting on College Drive

UPDATE 21:18: The Phenix City Police Department has released additional information regarding the investigation into the murder of Christopher Womack.

Police said they were notified of the shooting at around 1:48 p.m. on Friday. Officers arrived at the scene and found Womack suffering from a gunshot wound. Officers attempted to save his life, but unfortunately Womack died.


Police said his son, 22-year-old Christopher Justin Womack, is in custody and faces additional charges.

PHENIX CITY, Alabama (WRBL)– Authorities in Phenix City are investigating a homicide that occurred at an apartment complex near College Drive.

According to Russell County Coroner Arthur Sumbry, 52-year-old Christopher Womack died of a gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at 2:43 p.m. Friday. His body was found at The District at Phenix City Apartments.

Sumbry says his body will now be sent to the Alabama State Department of Forensics for an autopsy.
