Buffalo City School to be named for late Ron Peoples

BUFFALO, N.Y. — A packed Buffalo school board meeting included many people waiting for approval of a name change.

After hearing from the community, the family of the late Ron Peoples and others, the board voted unanimously to rename PS 82 Early Childhood Center The Ronald Peoples School of Scholars.

His educational journey has been remarkable.

He was the first black teacher at PS 82 Early Childhood Center. He was the first black elementary supervisor in Buffalo Public Schools, served as director of adult basic education and home school coordinator.

Peoples have worked in the field of education for over 50 years.

Mr. Ronald Peoples continued to serve his community after his retirement as a youth group counselor and recreation program specialist at the Neighborhood House Association.

Ron Peoples died in March 2020 from COVID.
