DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – A local organization is warning the public about concerning air quality that could have health implications.

According to the Miami Valley Regional Planning Commission, an air quality warning is in effect for Thursday, June 13. An air quality index of 105 is expected on Thursday. Values ​​above 101 are considered “unhealthy for sensitive groups.”


During the day, the formation of ground-level ozone is possible.

Potential health impacts from air quality warnings

Residents of Clark, Darke, Greene, Miami, Montgomery and Preble counties should be aware that the air can cause certain health problems.

“Older adults, children and anyone with respiratory or heart disease should avoid prolonged or strenuous exercise,” MVRPC said. “People with asthma should follow their Asthma Action Plan and have fast-acting medications on hand.”

Although most people will not be affected, taking breaks is recommended. According to the MVRPC, it is safe for most people to be active outdoors.

Drivers can help protect the environment by carpooling and filling up their vehicles at the gas pump after 8 p.m. If you need to do yard work, avoid using gasoline-powered equipment. People who need to mow their lawns are asked to do so in the evening.
